Cupping Therapy

It is a type of deep-tissue massage. In Cupping therapy, a physiotherapist puts special cups on your skin for a few minutes to create suction or mobilize the tissue with cups. It helps to reduce pain, progress inflammation & facilitate healing, and increase blood flow and relaxation.

Dry needling Technique

Dry needling is a treatment technique that uses thin needles into or near your trigger points (Muscle Knott). The needles stimulate your muscles, which causes them to contract or twitch. It helps relieve pain and improve your range of motion. Our Laurel Health physiotherapists are trained and certified to use the needles at practice.

Exercise Therapy

Exercise therapy is a type of rehabilitation that uses physical activity to help treat injuries or conditions. It can be used independently or with other treatments like medication or surgery.
The following types of exercises used in the treatment.
• Exercising range of motion (passive, assisted-active and active)
• Exercising with increasing resistance
• Balance exercises
• Strengthening exercises
Conditioning through aerobic exercise Depending on your stage of recovery and physical limitations, the type of exercise you will do in your treatment will vary. Laurel Health Physiotherapist may begin with range-of-motion activities and progress to restorative exercises as your functional abilities improve.

IASTM

Instrument-associated soft tissue mobilization (IASTM)is a non-invasive, soft tissue technique that uses specially designed stainless-steel instruments to help the physiotherapist to identify and treat areas of the body exhibiting tissue fibrosis or adhesions.
The benefits of IASTM therapy include:
• Relieve pain from soft tissue injuries
• Improve blood flow
• Decrease muscle spasms
• Promote tissue healing from injuries
Laurel Health physiotherapist will use specific instruments and techniques to get the benefits on the tissues to help and promote function.

Kinesiology Tapping (K tape):

Kinesiology tape is a sturdy, stretchy tape usually made with cotton and nylon. It helps facilitate muscle function, stabilize joints, or keep muscles from contracting improperly. Also, K tape is used to help to decrease pain, swelling, and muscle spasms. Our trained Physiotherapist at Laurel Health will safely apply the K tape to improve mobility & function.

Manual Therapy

Orthopedic Manual Therapy includes any form of care where a physiotherapist provides treatment with his or her hands. Through a series of manual therapy techniques, a clinician can increase your blood flow, tissue flexibility, and range of motion. Manual therapy can also reduce pain, reduce swelling or inflammation, help repair tissue, and induce relaxation. Laurel Health physiotherapist will use specific skills to adjust and stimulate tissue and help to improve body function and live to the best of your ability.

Therapeutic Modalities

Therapeutic modalities are used to facilitate the natural healing response by an increase in energy. (Electrical, sound or temperature) Modalities used include Ultrasound, EMS (Electrical muscle stimulation), TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation), IFC (Interferential Current Therapy), and Heat (Hot Pack) or cold (Ice Pack). Each modality serves a unique purpose to reduce pain, decrease swelling & increase blood circulation.

Vestibular Rehabilitation

Vestibular rehabilitation is a specialized form of exercise-based therapy designed to alleviate both primary and secondary symptoms of vestibular disorders (Balance Disorders) and inner ear problems. Our trained vestibular physiotherapist helps to reduce the dizziness and restore or improve balance.
